Kung Hey Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year

This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We found out about the Great Race and how the animals of the Chinese Zodiac decided who would have which year named after them. We have used chopsticks to move pom-poms and written messages to go in our red envelopes.

We especially enjoyed tasting different types of Chinese food, prawn crackers were definitely the favourite!

Mini ecadets

Today is Safer Internet Day.

We read a book called Penguinpig together.

PENGUINPIG is a story about a little girl who reads of an exciting creature known as a penguinpig on the Internet. She loves the penguinpig and decides that she must go and find one.

However, her parents are far too busy to take her and so she decides that she will sneak out and find the adorable penguinpig all on her own. Carefully, she follows the instructions from the website - but instead of finding a penguin pig finds a hungry grizzly bear looking for his lunch!

The little girl learns to "think before you click". We talked about keeping safe and not clicking on links in the apps and websites we use.

We also learnt about Hector the Protector.

If we see anything on the computer which worries us we know to click on Hector and he will cover up the page until we can find a grown up to tell.

You can download Hector to your own computer here.

We are fabulous mini ecadets!

Magical Monday Story time in Class 1

Magical Monday Story time in Class 1

This week the case had a golden book, a key and a tiny straw hat.

We worked together to tell our story and here it is;

Once upon a time there was a tiny scarecrow who was very sad because he lived in the nasty giant's garden. The giant was mean and he took the scarecrow away from his friends. One night the scarecrow came alive and he woke the giant up. The giant said "Fe Fi Fo Fum don't you run" The giant tried to grab the scarecrow but he slipped and a magic key fell out of his pocket. The giant then tried to grab the key but he fell again and a golden book fell out of his other pocket. The scarecrow took the key and opened the garden gate and escaped. The golden book had a map inside. He followed the map and found his way home to his friends in the kind giant's garden. THE END!

Mrs Gaskell thought that we used our knowledge of traditional tales well and was very pleased with Alfie who remembered that the giant said "Fe Fi Fo Fum!" in Jack and the Beanstalk. Joshua was also very clever for remembering that many stories begin with "Once upon a time" and Stevie said "they always have to say THE END in big letters so we know it is finished." What clever children in Class 1.

WHITEFIELD BOYS LOVE WRITING.

We are always trying to think of different ways we can develop our writing skills. This week we put large sheets of paper underneath our tables and we lay down and drew pictures as we told a scary story. We did pictures of monsters, bears and spiders. We had a go at writing cursive letters too. Our teachers even had a go of writing in this way but they were too big!
