Magical Monday Story time in Class 1
Magical Monday Story time in Class 1
This week the case had a golden book, a key and a tiny straw hat.
We worked together to tell our story and here it is;
Once upon a time there was a tiny scarecrow who was very sad because he lived in the nasty giant's garden. The giant was mean and he took the scarecrow away from his friends. One night the scarecrow came alive and he woke the giant up. The giant said "Fe Fi Fo Fum don't you run" The giant tried to grab the scarecrow but he slipped and a magic key fell out of his pocket. The giant then tried to grab the key but he fell again and a golden book fell out of his other pocket. The scarecrow took the key and opened the garden gate and escaped. The golden book had a map inside. He followed the map and found his way home to his friends in the kind giant's garden. THE END!
Mrs Gaskell thought that we used our knowledge of traditional tales well and was very pleased with Alfie who remembered that the giant said "Fe Fi Fo Fum!" in Jack and the Beanstalk. Joshua was also very clever for remembering that many stories begin with "Once upon a time" and Stevie said "they always have to say THE END in big letters so we know it is finished." What clever children in Class 1.
WHITEFIELD BOYS LOVE WRITING.
We are always trying to think of different ways we can develop our writing skills. This week we put large sheets of paper underneath our tables and we lay down and drew pictures as we told a scary story. We did pictures of monsters, bears and spiders. We had a go at writing cursive letters too. Our teachers even had a go of writing in this way but they were too big!

Magical Monday Story time in Class 1
Magical Monday Storytime in Class 1
In Class 1 we have an old fashioned storytelling case with lots of exciting objects inside. Every Monday we use these objects to make up a story using our imagination and our knowledge of books. We try hard to make our story exciting and think of super words to describe the objects.This week the case had a large shell, a diamond bracelet and a necklace made from gold and pearls.
We worked together to tell our story and here it is;
Once upon a time there was a ghost pirate and a mermaid. They were friends and they played on the beach. The ghost pirate was spooky and had a grey face, he looked scary but he wasn't and the mermaid thought he was ok. She was beautiful with long hair and a pink dress and fins.They discovered an old ship at the bottom of the sea and found treasure inside a box. It was a magic shell that glowed under water, a glittery bracelet that sparkled and a necklace that belonged to the queen!
Mrs Gaskell thinks this is a wonderful story and cannot wait until next week.

Goldilocks
Last week we read the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears together, and used it as the starting point for our provision in Early Years.

We moulded porridge play dough! It was stiff |

We used the iPads to draw and write about the bears. Here we saw some shadows and wanted to use them to tell the story. |

We measured and ordered the three bears feet! We measured our feet too! |

Frozen teddy
Last week we had an unexpected visitor in Early Years.
We received a parcel and when we looked inside found a hard, frozen teddy and a letter from Polar Bear. He had found the poor lost teddy and sent him to us to look after.
We thought very carefully and had lots of ideas of different ways to warm up teddy. We talked about wrapping him in a blanket, giving him a cuddle, putting him on a radiator and making him Hot Chocolate.
We also had lots of frozen teddies in the water tray! How can we get them out?!
We cooked bug soup with bear friendly ingredients, following a recipe and counting spoonfuls. The soup was delicious!

Frozen teddy inspired us to do lots of mark making about our experiences.
We wrote Polar Bear a letter to tell him what we had been doing to look after teddy! We can't wait to see if he replies! Frozen teddy is now warm and fluffy and very happy living with us.

Welcome Back
Welcome back to Early Years after the Christmas holidays. We have been delighted to see the children come back in so well and so keen to learn.
This term we will be learning all about bears (including Polar Bears and Spectacled Bears like Paddington) and reading some favourite stories about bears. This week we are reading "Hairy Bear", and "Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see?".
Look at this great bear drawing already from our outside area. The bear has a round ear and a pointy sore ear. He is one and has a birthday cake made of fish, because bears love fish!
